We have a school being rebrokered to us in a few weeks, they currently have Iris Ed:Gen as their MIS, which they can barely use. Has anybody done a migration from Ed:Gen to another MIS? We use Arbor in our Trust but I would honestly move to Sims for a period of time if it got them off Ed:Gen.

I imagine it will be some more graft than normal - they are such a small player so don't think any of the main players have a full migration for edgen. But worth checking as aware due to SIMS actions they are looking at wonde as a route to get some data migrated but also do have spreadsheets to augment that or indeed do a full manual migration. I really wouldn't go SIMS - next gen is a horrible mess and imagine you would be stumping for 3 years too. Both below par products but you probably get better value for money and performance from edgen !!

Sims is a last resort but at least the school still have a skill set in Sims and I used it for 20+years before we moved to Arbor. Plus if it is on Sims we have a migration pathway to Arbor, even if there is additional cost for the length of the Sims contract. Might all be moot though, I've reached out to ESS and nobody from sales has even bothered getting back to me.

SIMS migration efforts aren't as good as Arbor or Bromcom either as their development in that area is as rapid as their general development - And they seem to have a head in sand attitude to recognising their customers are leaving in droves ! So going via SIMS would be more work I would think and you would end up with probably less options to get data in. I cant imagine SIMs sales have much incoming so probably redecorating the lounge rather than sat by the phone ! Didnt see anything of edgen at BETT so cant see youre alone in finding it lacking . . .

Isn't ED:Gen a rebranded iSAMS? There have been isams<->sims migrations in the past, so maybe the thinking goes they'd have less disruption with a temporary hop to SIMS rather than having to basically reenter all the data by hand going into Arbor.

This reads to me like an exploring options to rule them out though.

(you'd need something like classcharts on the side to minimise classroom distruption IMHO, though *maybe* SIMS NG is just good enough to hold it together for a year or so for them?)

...that said, this might be a chance for ESS to earn brownie points by giving you a temporary port in the storm, maybe they give you safe harbor, and you trial NG for a bit before moving on - no harm no foul.

I now have a migration booked from Ed:Gen to Sims with a go live date of July 1st, although the school will continue to use Ed:Gen to enter attendance and anything statutory until they end the term. For the migration I need to export CTF for all students for the past ten years, which is straightforward, and then produce a number of CSV files. My question is which module in Ed:Gen is used for reporting?
