[sims] SIMS Migration & Backups

Hi all,

 

Anyone moving away from SIMS, have you had any explicit instruction from ESS to destroy any backups that hold SIMS or the SIMS Database please? The wording seems very sure and it also feels very, very wrong. Obviously it can only be done to "best efforts" level short of destroying other data from that server but I want to check if any other schools/trusts have looked into this further?

Yes, we had 2 schools join our Trust and we moved them from SIMS last summer and had this from their LEA when we said we won't be renewing. Very similar wording , must not use the product after date X and all backups must be destroyed and software must be removed from clients. Since they were primaries it was not an issue as they didn't use anything beyond registers and parent contact details , but if it were a high school with more data like exam results it might be a bit more problematic.

 

We just shut the SIMS server down, and they had new machines so old ones were wiped. Never been chased any further.

Just ignore everything they say now, they are trying everything to make it difficult but they are just words...

Yes indeed, my thoughts entirely, but just want to ensure we're covered in case someone throws their Vtech My First Computer out of their pram followed by a lawsuit to anyone that looks at them funny

Good grief. I think its time the DfE and ICO step in, this is going to impact 50% of all schools.

 

I recall negotiating a very reasonable perpetual (single user?) licence for Facility/CMIS when we migrated away from them. Perhaps something similar can be worked out with ESS.
