Jaan Posted January 24, 2025 Posted January 24, 2025 We have a number of roles and permission sets in bromcom. I've just been asked... "Which roles have permission X". Apart from going through each role and permission one by one is there an easier to do this? i can print of all the permissions on any given role, but still have to go through each permission for each role...... How do you guys do this? cheers
Julian Posted January 24, 2025 Posted January 24, 2025 Not easily Bromcom Roles and permissions, can be exported, as an XML file, which Excel can import, and search. The Bromcom permission names are a bit cryptic. Create a new roles and permission, with just the permission you are looking for set, export, import into Excel, see what the name is, and use that to search all the other XML files, for that name.
Jaan Posted January 24, 2025 Author Posted January 24, 2025 Yeah i have a report i can run which breaks it all down..... just still long winded.
Marci Posted January 24, 2025 Posted January 24, 2025 (edited) I have a quickreport that brings in the Roles domain and spits it out to Excel, and can therefore filter it's output to a specific permission, find all the roles that set that permission, and all the staff who have that role. This something you did in house or have i totally overlooked this? Thanks
Marci Posted January 24, 2025 Posted January 24, 2025 Edited to add screenshot above. Done in house. Report is just the entirety of the "Roles" subdomain in QuickReports, brought into Excel via Data > Get Data > From Web via Livefeed URL, futzed with in Excel. 1
Aftab_Ahmed Posted February 1, 2025 Posted February 1, 2025 Can you merge roles : ie export and then import into a new role as giving staff the ability to switch roles is confusing. Just wondered what others are doing on this ?
Jaan Posted February 3, 2025 Author Posted February 3, 2025 Can you merge roles : ie export and then import into a new role as giving staff the ability to switch roles is confusing. Just wondered what others are doing on this ? Our permission sets are job role based, with users having multiple permissions based on their day to day roles. These permission sets are layered. We have a standard role and safeguarding role which everybody gets, then others are added and layered depending on role..... Communication admin, Covery admin, Senco admin, SLT etc etc (see screenshot below) We don't have users switching roles so to speak, unless i've misinterpreted your question.
Marci Posted February 3, 2025 Posted February 3, 2025 Likewise. You only need to switch if your roles have differing priorities, and you're being stopped from fulfilling a task by a higher priority role removing access... in which case you'd switch to the relevant role that would grant that access. If all roles have same priority they're applied in a merge-whatever's-granted kinda way.
