Move Domain from One Tenancy to another

Hi guys

 

Quick question

 

Got a school currently sharing a domain with another school, we got them registered a new domain and want to move them over to a new domain, we got the tools already in place to do the migration of mailboxes etc

 

Just to move it from the old domain to another surely its just logging on to old tenancy, remove domain, go to new tenancy, add the domain to the new one and change DNS/MX Records etc and it should just move over

 

Then do the mailbox migrations and using the tool?

 

Is this the correct way of doing it?

 

Or use the tool to move it first then do the domain record changes afterward?

 

My question more of just transferring the domain from one tenancy to another whether its just as straight forward as to what i mentioend above

We've always created the new users in the new tenancy with a temporary domain, migrated all of the data across and then moved the domain last. Not sure if this is the correct way of doing things, but we've done this with 7 schools in total previously and never had an issue/complaint.

That’s the essence of it, but you need to remove EVERYTHING on the old tenant that’s using the domain before it’ll let you remove it, so proxyaddress on email addresses, groups and so on.
