Smartboard USB problem

We have some old Smartboards - 4065 - three of them cannot maintain a USB connection for the touch function. The USB connection repeatedly disconnects and reconnects.

 

have tried:

- disabling power management settings for USB

- new short cable

- Windows 10 and Windows 11

- different devices

- powered USB hub

 

 

Anything else that could help fix this?

Have considered removing the USB-B socket and replacing with a new one but cannot imagine that is the fault for three boards.

 

I saw on some old threads that other people had this issue but didn't see a solution.

try different cables, we have many of them and I have tried bunch of them until one worked

They're really sensitive to, well, everything...

 

We have to use a repeater for any lead longer than 2m.

 

The sockets get really slack and lose connection - I've replaced 3 or 4 sockets onto the boards.

 

We have to run HDMI over optical to them because they get interfered with by practically everything. I've got one board that has fairly large external speakers fed by analogue audio from an HDMI extractor and the until we started using HDMI over optical rather than copper the image shivered in time to the audio when the volume went up!

Good to know. The lead is a 2m lead. Would have thought a USB powered hub would give it a boost but made no difference.

 

Yes - we have had problems with other boards with the HDMI.

These ones are suffering just with the USB touch. Teachers have taken to drawing on the board with a whiteboard marker; a simple workaround!

They can get weakened over time, it happens a lot with the USB MIDI keyboards we have that have a USB cable plugged in to them all the time.

 

Sometimes you can manipulate the USB port from the inside to make a better connection but ultimately grabbing some USB ports from CPC or RS Components is a more permanet solution (assuming you're OK with a soldering iron or rework station that is).

Have a vague but persistent memory of those boards being INCREDIBLY fussy with anything other than the official SMART brand USB leads. Think they were pale cream sorta with a cable clip on the end.

 

Not much help if you don't have those handy but if so I think this did our heads in before we twigged.
