aydee Posted November 13, 2024 Posted November 13, 2024 Hi All, Anyone ever tried using Smoothwall & Mint together? I have never dabbled with Linux, but a 6th former (so BYOD, hence the MITM Certificate) is wanting to use it. We have managed to get the certificate installed, some websites like google etc work fine, but other sites are brought up as insecure HSTS error. I am unsure if its soley due to the OS, or if its something else. If i put the device in exceptions its fine, so in my mind its definitely Smoothwall doing it. Any ideas? TIA
tom_newton Posted November 13, 2024 Posted November 13, 2024 HSTS probably means the cerificate was remembered by the browser. Try clearing the HSTS cache for that site, see if that works: https://www.thesslstore.com/blog/clear-hsts-settings-chrome-firefox/ 1
aydee Posted November 14, 2024 Author Posted November 14, 2024 Thank you Tom, seems to work a treat! 1
tom_newton Posted November 14, 2024 Posted November 14, 2024 Im not sure if theres a way to fix that for all sites - nuking the browser profile directory might do it, though it's likely to recur (student visits stie off-net, gets pinned, comes back) so teaching them to fix it themselves is probs plan A. As a linux user they are probably savvy - if they want to do work experience tell them to hit me up
