Sonic007 Posted October 7, 2024 Posted October 7, 2024 Hi everyone, All has been fine until now. I'm now getting updates failing to install with the error below. Anyone know how to sort this? Thankyou.
sigma Posted October 7, 2024 Posted October 7, 2024 Probably a corrupted file somewhere, you've tried the usual ? (in an elevated command prompt): net stop wuauserv [Enter] net stop cryptsvc [Enter] net stop bits [Enter] ren C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution SoftwareDistribution.old [Enter] ren C:\Windows\System32\catroot2 Catroot2.old [Enter] net start wuauserv [Enter] net start cryptsvc [Enter] net start bits [Enter] 2
Sonic007 Posted October 8, 2024 Author Posted October 8, 2024 Thankyou for your reply. I have indeed tried the stopping and restarting of services and it then downloads and attempts to install but then gives the error again that it cant install updates and that it will try again later.
Sonic007 Posted October 9, 2024 Author Posted October 9, 2024 Server hard drive has failed. Disk corrupt so this most likely explains the Windows updates failing. 1
GeneMoody-Action1 Posted October 24, 2024 Posted October 24, 2024 Assuming the drive is in raid, and you have a hotspare, this *should* not cause data loss/failure while it rebuilds, if not raid... corrupt drives can cause any number of issues, so all bets are off there. If it persists after a raid rebuild (Or future windows update anomalies) use Get-WindowsUpdateLog, it will consolidate the logs relating to window update function, and put them in a easy to parse format in a file on your desktop. It is very helpful for digging into the ambiguous errors windows update often gives. 1
