Alastairb25 Posted September 4, 2024 Posted September 4, 2024 Hi All, Had some requests to install this. We had asked years ago as IT Support to look into bulk conversion, potentially AutoIT Thew existing free version just crashes for us https://www.smarttech.com/en-gb/education/products/software/smart-notebook/notebook-download-form Was informed we have an older version, turns out its from 2007 and we do not want to go down that path, security risk User insists requires for drawing certain shapes etc Have any other Schools successfully moved Maths departments away from Smart Notebook? I should add we do not own any of the boards and have not done so for at least 6 year Thanks, Alastair
thimon Posted September 4, 2024 Posted September 4, 2024 Once our Smart Notebook license expires (we went with a 3 year license) I’m moving everyone to ActiveInspire. I’ll be quoting cost as the main reason, if staff want to use Smart Notebook they’ll need to pay from their own department budget. https://www.prometheanworld.com/gb/products/software/activinspire/

thimon Posted September 4, 2024 Posted September 4, 2024 We do. However it’s free for anyone to use, doesn’t matter what board manufacture you have. Don’t even need to use it with boards! [emoji846]
snagrat Posted September 4, 2024 Posted September 4, 2024 But it’s not free. Just because you can use the key on as many activations as you want doesn’t make it free. That’s how SMART got into charging for their software as everyone was asking the “free” version and no longer buying their expensive hardware. Not that I am defending SMART, but you are acting against Promethean’s T&Cs but using it on non-Promethan hardware (although sounds like you aren’t but your advice says differently)
thimon Posted September 4, 2024 Posted September 4, 2024 (edited) Apologies. I looked on their website before posting but must have missed information relating to not using it on non Promethean screens. Sorry for giving out wrong information. Edit. I have looked further and have found the following article on their website, stating you can use ActiveInspire on non Promethean screens, which was always my understanding. There are also no keys to activate the software, it is free. https://support.prometheanworld.com/s/article/1398?language=en_US#:~:text=ActivInspire%20can%20be%20installed%20on,software%20installed%20on%20the%20computer. TheHyperTechie Posted September 5, 2024 Posted September 5, 2024 Have you looked into Lumio? When we were decommissioning Smart Notebook at my old job, this seemed the popular choice. Basically a browser version of Smart, might be worth a look? 1

Best to only use their software with their boards in that case.
