kierans Posted August 27, 2024 Posted August 27, 2024 I’ve been asked by a member of SLT to allow her school iPad to connect to her home WiFi. We normally don’t allow that as our filtering is applied at network level. Doing this obviously would allow unrestricted internet access from the device. I’d normally push back on this, but would like people’s thoughts on this
synaesthesia Posted August 28, 2024 Posted August 28, 2024 Why is it any different to a school supplied laptop? Surely you allow those to connect to people's home wifi?
msi_school Posted August 28, 2024 Posted August 28, 2024 At some point you have to trust staff to be professional, I would explain the filtering to this member of staff and your boss and then recommend its ok, you might even get new agent based filtering out of it. The only person who's safe guarding is reduced is the user and they have been warned of the issues unfiltered at school would be a different issue for me, they are using it away from the students in their home environment. 1
Olliedawg Posted August 28, 2024 Posted August 28, 2024 As above i don't see a problem with it. If it was student device that's another story. You could look into agent based / cloud based filters for the future? However on staff devices I don't see this as necessary. Student devices however 100% most definitely.
