Hi all,

We are wanting to deploy Google File Stream via Intune, ideally without the user being given the option to backup local files and folders. We just want to make Google Drive files available in the Windows File Explorer for our users. I couldn't see any switch for this/a way to preconfigure this when rolling out. Has anyone else done this/have any advice on how to do this?

Thanks!

You can govern this for Google Workspace accounts using the Admin console. Admin > Apps > Google Workspace > Drive and Docs > Google Drive for desktop > Syncing options. Leaving the unticked will mean that users just get the streaming option: they won't be able to opt for mirroring, etc. within the Drive for Desktop app unless you've enabled that option in Google Admin.

We just deploy the Windows app without any special config, and our users only get to stream files (with the option to make individual items available offline). The "Mirror files" option is greyed out.

This is excellent, thank you.
