Bulletin board / daily notices

To try and reduce the volume of emails flying around, we'd like to implement a bulletin board or daily notices document. I'm thinking an email address / form which people use to submit a message then a web page / Word365 document which collates them all for viewing in a single place. Has anyone done anything similar, and if so, how?

I think wiki is closer as all staff will be able to add things to it, but I need it to be painfully simple to use, basically as easy as sending an email otherwise people will just continue to send emails - unless we also lock down who can use the All Staff and All Teachers lists, do many schools do that?

Our school has stopped the ability for everyone to send out All Staff emails. If people do email All Staff, it goes to a few people to either be approved or denied. We just have a newsletter at the end of the week and if there is anything urgent (like clubs being cancelled), the headteacher's secretary sends an email to everyone.

Main site we're at has a Word doc for every day saved on Sharepoint. Staff are free to add to it. At about 9AM one of the admin team converts it to a PDF and emails it out to all staff.

Yammer / Engage was suggested for other purposes too, so it could sit within that perhaps.

What about a google site called daily notices that you keep up to date? You can also lock that down e.g. to staff only so that you can prevent info going to the wrong people too?

Been working well and staff have taken it on and post daily notices for students - saves staff getting emails to read during form etc.

 

Use of audience targeting also helps to restrict whose what etc

If staff have to search for it, then they definitely won't read it.

Are you using Google Workspace? If so, look at a Google Group and whether you can set each member's subscription to be in the form of a daily digest, rather than forwarding each message as they arrive. Not sure you'd have control over the timing of the digest, though.

That's certainly true if the page is buried away or can only be found on a search, but I'm assuming there's a readily-accessible link to add notices (otherwise people also won't bother) so just follow that same link to read it. If your staff can't even be bothered to do that, I doubt they're bothering to open the email either!

We have SharePoint news for staff on the homepage, and virtually no-one reads it. I've found that if staff are historically used to everything being emailed to them, then they won't bother looking anywhere else unless you email them and tell them to (we make liberal use of SharePoint/Teams notify members about new news items function).

We have SharePoint news for staff on the homepage, and virtually no-one reads it. I've found that if staff are historically used to everything being emailed to them, then they won't bother looking anywhere else unless you email them and tell them to (we make liberal use of SharePoint/Teams notify members about new news items function).

 

There will certainly be a settling in period where people don't check it, but I'm optimistic they'll get used to it. If people complain, I'll just tell them shift happens :-)

Just set it as the default web page for staff and get your head to instruct them that they are expected to read the staff news page every day.

 

That way it's up to their own (un)professional judgment if they choose to ignore it.

This is basically what we do, although for us the Headteacher's PA sends out a daily staff & student bulletin with notes for the day on it

It's sharepoint, so my guess is no, it's terrible and should die in a fire.

 

Wordpress is easy to run internally though, although emailing it would require setup
