Would it work with 2d design?

 

If its an 0181 number that's going to be old. Possibly for Dos or BBC micro.

I've been here since 2005, I've never seen them before! Tech had them in store room, I think they could work... needs a new belt and it has a serial port on the back of the controller but no text anywhere other than the pic of that psu.

We've got a CNC lathe of a similar age in our DT cupboard. I managed to find the software online and got it running in Dos box, but I've never had the time to try connecting it to the machine.

 

It probably uses G-Code or HPGL or something like that. But which codes and the feed and speed settings it needs would be a guess. You would need some software to generate that code from a design.

Probably compatible with Dos 1 and the Commodore VIC 20. Tried the computing musesum in Bletchley?

You might be better posting on one of the CNC machine forums. I did find something that looked similar yesterday on a forum but for the life (google failing) of me cannot find it now, lol.

It will potentially be a lot of work no matter what, coming from someone that has replaced nearly all the electronics and modified a cheap desktop CNC machine including controller, PSUs, stepper drivers.

If it's got a serial port on it then it's gonna be at 20 years old possibly more!

 

Will likely be a challenge to get running on your cyber security compliant windows 11 hardware.

I have in the past used a Windows 7 PC and given it only read access to a share and no other network/Internet access to get around issues whilst rebuilding the controller, purely so I could get GCODE to the CNC without even using a USB key. Even the relatively new CNC was only USB and I could not get a win10 driver for it. Since ditched USB in favour of ethernet controller so I don't have to USB Plug and Pray :-)

Just bare in mind that if it is connected, it can be infected and it can also infect others.
