ITspy Posted April 9, 2024 Posted April 9, 2024 so we have a foolish client that has 5 Mac books on a whole windows server and environment. But has a problem every day almost connecting to the server. he looses connection or never gets connection, because then he just resets his machine and after the second or third time of restarting his laptop it works. Is there a reason for this and a solution that anybody can help with?
FN-GM Posted April 9, 2024 Posted April 9, 2024 How do you mean connect to the server? Is it hosting an application? RDP? File share? Printers? Etc 1
2ilent8cho Posted April 9, 2024 Posted April 9, 2024 Can the device actually resolve the name fasfs01? (ie do nslookup fasfs01 on a terminal window). If it cannot you have a network configuration issue. Presume Search Domains are set to in the network config or its at least getting that configured by DHCP?
Roberto Posted April 9, 2024 Posted April 9, 2024 So have you done the normal troubleshooting steps when a client can't connect to a network drive on a server? A "server may not exist" kind of error makes me think of Network settings, DNS or even some more basic infrastructure issue not quite being right. There isn't a magic "Mac go work now" button that you or they are forgetting to press.
ITspy Posted April 9, 2024 Author Posted April 9, 2024 with this wonderful client i do wish there was one
Davit2005 Posted April 9, 2024 Posted April 9, 2024 (edited) This could be a number of issues. But I think you will need some more info from the user. i.e. Do other people have any issue Can they browse the internet when they have the issue, ask user to browse a website they have not been on before to make sure it is not cached etc Are they able to ping their default gateway Can they ping the server Just a note though ping might not be specifically allowed so it might not necessarily work (If I had a pound for every time some dev said a service don't work because they can't ping the server I'd be having smoked salmon every day) I think you should rule out an issue on the client device before anything else personally and that could include network connectivity as overs have mentioned above especially if only one device is having the issue.
