Hi Geeks.

With Easter Break approching my thoughts start turning towards reimaging devices and updating software images. I thought it would be intresting to see what free locally installed applications you all use in your educational enviroment. To get us started here is a list I generally use. With a rough explanation of what it is.

VLC - MEdia player

7zip - file compresser

Python - programming app

Visual Studio - programming app

Gimp - vector graphis app

Scratch - game creation

GDevelop - game creation

Cura - 3d print slicer

Chrome - we browser

Adobe - pdf reader

Freecam - screen recorder

Kodu - game creator

Notepad ++ - notepad

tenqq -

I'm currently trying to find something that can be locally installed and help teach typing - I'm thinking Tux Typing might be good - Is anyone using this. For this use case we currently use typing.com but i'm finding it causes some issues lately so thought i'd look at a locally installed app.

Other free software i dont curently use but have used in the past

Brackets

Inventory

Autocad

Thonny

Audacity

Musescore

Linux for work and macbook for everything else :) We don't have many windows O/S where I work (small company 500 employees)

Don't get much time for gaming, but I hear that steam/proton has excellent support for linux these days.

Yea proton is the way forward, works for majority of games to be honest!

yeah. Once people said they couldn't use linux because of poor driver support, then it was lack of applications, then ability to manage them, then gaming.

Not sure what the reasons are these days TBH. I guess people just don't like change.

Thats exactly it. The only reason I dont use Linux on my gaming rig is because there is no support for EasyAntiCheat (kernel level EAC), so I wouldn't be able to play online on a few games which use this.
