Plogger -open-source photo gallery

I've decided I'm going to introduce a proper Photo Gallery Server to the school. After looking around the net trying to find a good open source photo gallery, I came across plogger It looks really good, and was wondering if anyone else is using it?

 

The nice thing about it is you can customize the look of it to fit in with edu joomla etc.

Another alternative is ZenPhoto; but Plogger definitely looks good too.

I presume you want to do this to stop people clogging up shared areas with hundreds of uncategorized pictures?

 

I presume to achieve compliance you would ban picture file types from being saved to shared areas via file restriction policies?

 

What would be the work flow when a user wants to use a picture from the gallery server in a document, presentation etc..??

 

To achieve this the selected server needs to hold various resolutions of the original file.

whats the best hardware to run this gallery2.. its seems a little slow with me after adding 1 album. I can see it been slower with more albums and people searching for pictures.

 

when I say slow, its taking 5+sec to load album. that about right?

IIRC, there are different back-end options but it supposedly scales really well (I'm talking millions of images).

 

I take it you find the gubbin for Windows too so that you can right-click an image and send it to Gallery2?

will take alook at the back-end and see if I can tweek it alittle.

 

Im using 'remote control' so I can upload and scale pictures (batch)

 

I did find a link on Gallery2 about hardware requirements but it says access denied when I click it... tried signing up to the site and still cant access it
