How many schools actually have a standby line with a seperate cable route from a different exchange? None of the ones round here do that's for sure!

 

When the digger does it's diggin in the wrong place somewhere that's your cloudn school closed for a day or two.

 

We had this setup many years ago, two separate fibre connection to different exchanges.

Of course, Openreach put it all through the same fibre, and still managed to cut through it.

 

I think the solution is to use a single leased line and have the backup as a business grade FTTP though one of the new providers that put in their own cabling ('home grade' 2GB/s is about £50/month inc VAT around here so worth checking local providers for business FTTP and using that as backup, or even replacing expensive leased lines.)

If a second line on a diverse route via separate ISP is not viable you might be able to pay for 4hrs break-fix on your primary line?

So then you have a DHCP server running. It’s just not on traditional server hardware, but a server nevertheless.

All I can say is that Unifi Cameras with an NVR are brilliant.  The cameras are all PoE and you can adopt them easily.  The system is fully accessible from the internet and has an app to view and access all of the cameras.  You can set shortcuts to all the other cameras to make following a subject really easy.  They have lots of different cameras to meet your needs and is very scalable.  We have around 65 cameras covering our site, all in HD.  You can set your own data retention periods for the footage, to meet your GDPR compliance.  You can run them over your existing network, set them up in their own V-lans, download specific time stamped footage to a very high quality video, and easily go back in time on any camera.  We were originally going to go with Hic vision, but due to the legal things going on with Chinese made networking equipment, we decided on Unifi, and haven't looked back.  Extremely happy, bar the odd software update from Unifi that have made things less than ideal.  Those updates are far and few though.
