2T Engine help please? Overwintering and getting out of storage...

Hey All,

 

I have a 2020 Aprilia SR50 2T. Just as a bit of fun! I haven't used it since around September last year and it's just been under a cover. With Spring only around the corner I've been thinking about getting it out of storage again and starting to ride it. I disconnected the battery and it's been in storage on a trickle charger for the whole time so that should still be fine.

 

Is there anything special I have to do before attempting to start it after this long? I was thinking about putting a squirt of 2T oil into spark plug hole and kicking it over a few times to hopefully coat the cylinder with some fresh oil before. Is this reccomended?

 

Apart from that I wasn't going to do anything and just try and start it up with the old fuel and 2T oil in the tank?

You don’t need to take out the plug - you can just kick it over without the leads on to get some oil through.

 

Otherwise, check the tyres and brakes, and ride it.

If you put oil in it, don't do too much or else you might hydro-lock it. You are probably ok without for a relatively new bike. Maybe try it if it doesn't start. You might want some fresh fuel if it doesn't start, but its probably fine.

 

I'd let it idle for a few minutes before riding it so that the oil gets round the engine. That's probably the main thing for the engine if its sat for more than a few days.

 

Its worth giving it a good going over - tyres, brakes, lights etc. If you've got the manual, it might be worth going over the regular service items and checking they are all good.

 

Otherwise, just go out and enjoy it. There's some nice weather at the moment.
