Off site filtering

Can someone point me in the right direction about requirements for Offsite filtering and monitoring please - for the life of me I cannot see the wood for the trees........

It will depend on what your requirements are I suppose. We're a 1:1 device school, and our DSL wanted to ensure that the same level of filtering was applied offsite that was onsite. We use Lightspeed and I'd argue it's one of the better solutions for our type of set up, athough getting to that point was a whole different headache...

Why are you filtering off-site? Is there a recorded need for it? How do you cover where the device might be used by a range of family members? Is it school-provided devices or BYOD? Lots and lots of questions to chuck towards the risk assessment.

My logic has always been - It's a school provided device. If the student goes home and downloads loads of adult content or gets groomed via it we'll be held responsible so we need to provide filtering. Equally if they go home and download loads of this content & then use the device in school others may see it.

 

Don't allow the device to be used by family members - If the student lets a family member use their school logon then that's a separate issue.

We have some Pupil Premium laptops that were handed to students and I was told to ensure they were filtered etc.

 

I want to bring them in so I can update them and send them back out to those students and I wanted to check if it was really needed especially on Pupil Premium laptops (as I understand if PP it basically becomes their laptops) unless I’m wrong

We use Securly across our Trust and that provides anywhere filtering for all of our managed Chromebooks, PCs and ipads. Simple to setup and works well.
