RobSheehy Posted February 6, 2024 Posted February 6, 2024 Hi We are getting Smoothwall Filtering installed tomorrow and I've been trying all week to get our WAN details from RM and all they do is tell me it's not needed but our Smoothwall Install Engineer is insisting is it. Has anyone else encountered this problem? Anything I can do to get these details without getting them from RM? Thanks
robyholmes Posted February 6, 2024 Posted February 6, 2024 traceroute and ipmyself.com (Makes me laugh each time I use that site) should give you some basic information on routing. How do RM provide your connection currently? 2
Davit2005 Posted February 6, 2024 Posted February 6, 2024 (edited) Show my IP won't help much if RM use Private IP address ranges i.e. RFC1918 for your WAN connection. A traceroute or tracert on Windows may well a bit if you can determine the last hop but it likely will only show the next hop not the previous one. I'd push RM for the details, raise it with your account manager and get SMT to back you up if need be, Edited February 6, 2024 by Davit2005
RobSheehy Posted February 6, 2024 Author Posted February 6, 2024 Hi We've got a juniper box onsite and that has a direct connection to the open reach line. He is after our WAN: IP Address, Subnet mask and default gateway. I've got the IP address(thank you so much for that) but is there any way of getting the other details Thanks again Rob

The subnet might be more difficult without access to the Juniper. I'd defo push RM for the details
Wave9_Lee Posted February 6, 2024 Posted February 6, 2024 It may be some time ago, but you should have recieved these on installation. Also just tell them to give the information - You are the customer... 1
Davit2005 Posted February 6, 2024 Posted February 6, 2024 Also just tell them to give the information - You are the customer... ^^^^^^^^ This A strong letter from a member of SMT if they do not give it or wipe their feet. We had similar at a previous place, the third party wanted to withhold the info and access details to the firewall (we were migrating to a different third party) a letter from director helped.
