Pitney Bowes Franking Machine Ink

Has anyone ever had any issues using compatible ink cartridges?

 

We have a Pitney Bowes DM110i (PR20) franking machine which has been happily using compatible cartridges (CartridgeSave own brand) for over a year now but has recently come up with an ink out error. We have tried using a brand new compatible cartridge but as soon as it is installed it keeps going back to the ink out error. Has anyone ever had a similar experience and was able to get it back up and running again? I really don't want to have to spend £160 per cartridge for a branded cartridge when compatible ones are available for under £20.
