Mudbar Posted October 16, 2023 Posted October 16, 2023 We have a S8 smoothwall appliance and our download speeds seems to be getting bottlenecked. I am getting around 60Mbps download when going through the smoothwall appliance. When I bypass the smoothwall appliance I am getting around 700Mbps. Has anyone else experienced this issue?
bknaggs Posted October 16, 2023 Posted October 16, 2023 I was told by Smoothwall that an S8 should give about 700mbps throughout. I’d probably log a ticket for a once over of your setup. Unless you’ve accidentally plugged it into a 100mbps switch.
CrootUK Posted October 16, 2023 Posted October 16, 2023 (edited) We had the supermicro s8 for many years at one site which handled gigabit broadband fine. Edited October 16, 2023 by CrootUK
synaesthesia Posted October 17, 2023 Posted October 17, 2023 Running any AV like Sophos? Anything else that's doing inspection as well as Smoothwall is going to give it a hard time.
howartp Posted October 17, 2023 Posted October 17, 2023 Bandwidth limiting? /modules/guardian3/cgi-bin/guardian/bandwidthlimit.cgi We had it on when we had a 100mb line and forgot to remove it when we got 1Gb fibre. 1
Mudbar Posted October 19, 2023 Author Posted October 19, 2023 I have logged a ticket with smoothwall. They are checking through. I will have a look at the bandwidth limiting We are also due for a renewal next month. Would it make sense to upgrade to S9? We keep getting system load warning emails from smoothwall and potentially going 1-2-1 next year. Many thanks
ibpalle Posted October 19, 2023 Posted October 19, 2023 We keep getting system load warning emails from smoothwall and potentially going 1-2-1 next year. The load warning is triggered by a parameter set in the report - alerts - alerts settings. If that parameter is still at default, that will cause too many alerts to be sent. The value needs to be adjusted to a sensible value for your appliance. Set it to 8.
Mudbar Posted October 20, 2023 Author Posted October 20, 2023 I will set it to 8 so not getting as many warning load messages. We have no bandwidth limiting policy on the S8. They have said they will send me a demo S9 unit to test as this needs sorting before we decide to renew. They also said the S8 might not be able to handle a 1GB connection which seems rather odd!
