I have just finished pushing our new Windows 11 image to all staff laptops. Sounds great, but....

I have discovered many staff reporting that when they try to use the webcam (or visualiser) via the built-in Camera app, the display is just black. If a still photo is taken whilst the camera display is black, then it works and is saved successfully. It only seems to be the live video feed that is not working.

Has anyone else happened across this before? I hope so, don't fancy reimaging everything... :(

Sounds like what we had a couple of years back, if it's the same problem then you need to give the camera app permission to access the camera (and mic) under app permissions.

You can do this using Group Policy under Computer Configuration> Policies> Admin Templates> Windows Components> App Privacy

Hi, Did anybody find resolution for this issue ? We are facing the same issue. Seem its very intermittent on few users. We thought we cracked it via a windows update.

I can confirm the fix worked for us - or at least no one has complained since....

Well, as far as I know, sometimes, these issues are resolved through Windows updates. Ensure all laptops have the latest Windows 11 updates installed. It's like the most primitive solution. But also, you should verify that the Camera app itself has the necessary permissions to operate correctly. This can be done in the app settings within the Windows settings menu. It worked in my case when, in our office, we faced a similar issue right before the online conference.
