RIS

Hi,

 

Sorry if this question is a bit , but im new to this. I was following the RIS guide which you have here, so far so good. I've syspreped the machine and RIS is installed on the server.

 

When i boot the machine and press F12, i get the following message:

"the operating system inage you selected does not contain the necessarry drivers for your netwrok adapter".

 

I've done a search and what it kind of tells me is to install the network drivers onto the xp image on the server and also change the ini file.

 

Im not really sure which folder on the xp image i should install the drivers to, and also what changes do i make to the ini file so it points to the drivers?

Also can i put multiple network drivers, im sure i read that you had a certain limit.

May take a while first time, but when you've done it loads it becomes second nature.

 

Also you said you syspreped the machine. If your using RIS, you should be using the RIPrep tool in the Admin folder on the Reminst share.

If you're just starting to learn how to do imaging and you've got 2003/2008 server then I think that it's well worth skipping RIS and going straight to WDS - it's much better and you're going to have to learn it eventually :-)

It's also worth remembering that once you have put the correct drivers in the \$oem$\$1\Drivers\Nic folder it still might not work.

 

Certain Intel and Realtek drivers have a sort of compatible version in the i386 folder so you also need to put the driver in there.

And Broadcom drivers (especially from Dell) often need you to edit the ini file.

I wouldn't bother using RIS now, better to go with one of the newer WIM based imaging technologies... much faster than RIS and much less aggro with drivers
