Gongalong Posted August 21, 2023 Posted August 21, 2023 Hi folks, We have a number of Retex Mininet cabinets that are 10+ years old, used to house wireless access points. Used them for years without an issue and... our two keys have gone missing. I can still break into the cabinet but it would be great to use a proper key. Having no luck so far finding anyone that sells them (no response so far from Retex who are Spanish). None on eBay. Does anyone have these and willing to get a key copied? We will of course pay! Thanks
Chris_Cook Posted August 21, 2023 Posted August 21, 2023 Is there a number on the lock? Have you got a picture of the lock? 1
Gongalong Posted August 22, 2023 Author Posted August 22, 2023 No number unfortunately. The lock can be removed as it has a nut on the back, so at some point I might remove it and see if there's any identification on it. We've tried all our other cabinet keys and they don't even go into the lock, it's a slightly unusual key.
3s-gtech Posted August 22, 2023 Posted August 22, 2023 Is it a standard lock barrel with a star drive on the back, to bolt on the cam for the locks, or something more esoteric? If it's standard, just replace it. 1
Gongalong Posted August 22, 2023 Author Posted August 22, 2023 It does look replaceable as there's a nut or something at the back, and it's a simple latch. Worst case we'll have to replace the lot, but I can at least get into the cab for the moment with a giant bodging screwdriver :-)
3s-gtech Posted August 22, 2023 Posted August 22, 2023 I did a couple of laptop cabinets recently (one snapped key, one lost keys!) Only cost a few quid - the locks are usually interchangeable as you've seen. The manufacturer of the cabinet wouldn't be any help - they'd just buy the locks wholesale. 1
Gongalong Posted August 22, 2023 Author Posted August 22, 2023 Yep, I suspected the manufacturer would be useless. Still no reply.
Chris_Cook Posted August 22, 2023 Posted August 22, 2023 Is this what you are looking for? https://www.retex.es/en/product/lock-and-bolt-set-standard/ https://www.anixter.com/en_gb/products/32215200/RETEX-S-A-/Hand-Tools/p/543744 I'm not sure if you can buy direct from anixter, or if you have to find an installer with an account. Maybe whoever does your alarms/entry systems might be able to order it for you. I'd probably just measure up the diameter and length of the lock and order some camlocks from amazon. 1
Gongalong Posted August 23, 2023 Author Posted August 23, 2023 That's it, thanks! Retex haven't replied to emails so far, which doesn't bode well. Have sent Anixter an email to see if they have stock and will sell to me. Failing that I'll go the 3rd party lock route.
