Mifare card readers

At the moment our Library are using ACS ACR122 card readers and a free application call GoTo Tags Windows app to read student card numbers, auto paste them into the search field, auto press enter and then bring up library records.

 

The application is being discontinued and being replaced by a subscription based Desktop app. They are being very secretive regarding pricing so I'm looking for alternatives.

 

Does anyone have any recommendations for a card reader that will do keyboard emulation without any additional software?

Is this just enter the mifare serial no and press enter?

 

If so there's some very cheap readers that will do that.

We've got the RFIDeas Wave readers in a lot of places (they seem to be Sharp's preferred solution), and they do the the "type" the number and enter interface without any fuss, and seem to last forever (we've got some that are 15+ years old). But they are rather expensive.

The RFIDeas ones are quite flexible if I remember correctly. It has been a while since I last used them but seemed pretty well engineered kit.

I’m glad to hear the RFIDeas ones work well as the price was more than I was expecting.

 

Hopefully something at the cheaper end will do the auto pasting of the card number and not annoy the library too much.
