Miscbrah Posted July 5, 2023 Posted July 5, 2023 Hello all. Made up a new 22H2 image, just about to roll out but noticed certain staff accounts don't get the OneDrive link in the explorer sidebar. However some accounts do get it, and mostly noticed these are my test account which have no O365 presence at all (just AD accts.) Fairly sure there's nothing in GP that'd stop it happening, trouble is I'd like to make it happen. Anyone know what I need to be doing? Thanks much for any help.
mavhc Posted July 5, 2023 Posted July 5, 2023 Is OneDrive logged in for the users without the link? 1
Miscbrah Posted July 5, 2023 Author Posted July 5, 2023 Hi there - no, prompted to sign in from onedrive.live.com I'd have imagined the link would be available from file explorer regardless though, and if not signed in then when clicked would prompt for that and then behave from then on. Seems to be broadly what it wants to do with one of the test accounts (though these are only AD and have no onedrive nor email.) That about right or not really how it works?
mavhc Posted July 5, 2023 Posted July 5, 2023 I think you have to sign in once on that computer for it to appear 1
Miscbrah Posted July 5, 2023 Author Posted July 5, 2023 Cheers - gave that a few goes but still not there. Weird that if you have no onedrive you get it but if you do actually have one you can't get convenient icon. Or at least I can't anyways!
Mako Posted July 5, 2023 Posted July 5, 2023 Is the OneDrive client running in the bottom right? If set up, it should automatically sign the user in. The client should be running in the bottom right and the OneDrive link visible in the Explorer pane. If the account has no OneDrive presence, clicking the explorer link should (or, it used to) open up the client for you to sign in. Run a GP Result just to make sure there's nothing conflicting or intentionally hiding the client/preventing it from running. 1

Cheers, yep that client running and shortcut available for a user with NO O365 presence at all, but anyone with an O365 account (email, onedrive etc) it's not there for. Same policies, same OU... that's the only difference I can seem to determine. And yes as you say in the first bit that's how it works (for a user with no O365 anything.)
Mako Posted July 5, 2023 Posted July 5, 2023 Anything in the Event Log? What happens if you run the OneDrive client from the start menu? 1
Miscbrah Posted July 6, 2023 Author Posted July 6, 2023 (edited) Nothing juicy in event log no, and unavailable from the Start menu as a user-who-won't-get-it-in-file-explorer user, just the web search results and no app. I can though sign into OneDrive through eg Word on an account with an O365 presence and browse for/open files from the user's Onedrive that way. Seems happy enough doing that I'd just really want it showing up in the File Explorer for everyone if I could. Edited July 6, 2023 by Miscbrah
rossibIT Posted July 6, 2023 Posted July 6, 2023 Can you see the OneDrive link if you are logged in as admin? I have the same issue that I am hoping to get to over Summer. The little research I have done is permissions, which does not explain why some get it and some don't despite being in the same OU. 1
robintech Posted July 6, 2023 Posted July 6, 2023 Sounds like some kind of difference between Personal and Business OneDrive 1
Miscbrah Posted July 6, 2023 Author Posted July 6, 2023 (edited) Cheers both. Yes it does show up as local admin. I don't think there's anything making these personal OneDrives though. JUST discovered that if you bin the roaming profile (and then restart/scrub the cached local one) and log in again you DO get the File Explorer icon (after the second login when you've done all that) AND taskbar cloud icon AND the app is find-able in the Start menu. So I guess it's that. Yes yes I know roaming profiles are sinful. We're in the process of moving away. I think that'll be my issue then. The account that DID get it from the outset when I was testing ALSO didn't have a profile, the old one also with a 365 acct did (and now doesn't.) Very grateful everyone!! mavhc Posted July 6, 2023 Posted July 6, 2023 Oh yeah, MS don't bother to test anything with roaming profiles.
