MJWC Posted June 9, 2023 Posted June 9, 2023 So i have run into this issue in regards to google chrome: Once i update the web browser to the latest version i am then unable to access the internet when using a Student account I am able to access the internet with the updated browser using an Admin or Staff account I am able to still access the internet on the Student account when using another browser such as Edge When i load up Chrome to start i get a white page and the tab shows a Smoothwall Icon and then the address of what we set to be the home page, if i create a new tab and type anything in, i am greeted with "ERR Tunnel Connection Failed" Any help would be appreciated
Joeloman Posted June 12, 2023 Posted June 12, 2023 Spontaneously, it sounds like it is Chrome's home page that cannot be shown to the students. Have you tried opening a new tab? The easiest way to always find what is blocked is to look in the web filter log. I can personally strongly recommend using Cloud Filter.
MJWC Posted June 12, 2023 Author Posted June 12, 2023 (edited) When we open a new tab it displays the ERR Tunnel code, even typing in any website URL it does the same, im thinking it might be something to do with Group Policy. Checked the logs and Chrome is not being blocked at any point. Edited June 12, 2023 by MJWC
Joeloman Posted June 13, 2023 Posted June 13, 2023 If you don't find something blocked in the web filter log, you should probably look more at Chrome, as Edge works. (more or less the same code). When you get ERR Tunnel, it is often a DNS or proxy error, but if it works in Edge, the error may be in Chrome's own DNS cache. If you type chrome://net-internals/#dns in Chrome, you can easily empty the cache.
