Sonic007 Posted June 7, 2023 Posted June 7, 2023 We had 3 websites created by a web development company and they included our Twitter feeds on the front page. Now, when I login to my Wordpress site and look at the main page I get this: This message is only visible to admins: Due to changes with Twitter's API the plugin will not update feeds. Smash Balloon is working on a solution for our free users to see updated tweets in feeds again. Follow the link below for more information and updates. Custom Twitter Feed Changes I contacted them and they said they can "sort it out" for a maintenance fee of £225! To me this seems absurd! I'd rather wait. They chose to use this plugin when developing the site so surely it is their problem? What do you think?

If you believe Juniper they estimate the costs p/m to be $42k - https://juniperwebsites.support.junipereducation.org/hc/en-gb/articles/9629796863389-Status-Updates You can embed it for free - but usually looks a little naff, dependant on the web design.
DavR Posted June 7, 2023 Posted June 7, 2023 We had the same thing with the Twitter feed on our website, it's due to a change made at Twitter's end that severely limits the abilities of the free tier apps that most of these integrations run on. Our guy reckons we'll need the paid for version of Smash Balloon. For the time being though, we just dropped it off our front page design while we try and work this out. 1
mw184 Posted June 7, 2023 Posted June 7, 2023 I am glad to see that others are having issues with this (as bad as that sounds, I am just happy to know I am not alone with this). We are having troubles with this on our website, with our RSS feed to post on Facebook as well, and with our automated Tweet validation and post system (you may have seen on another thread that I started). Finding this very frustrating that the changes Twitter have made are having such a widespread affect. Our website host and myself have tried multiple plugins and addons to the wordpress site and none seem to work. Thinking that we may have no choice but to pay or find an alternative system, but I do not agree with the $100 a month minimum charge for this service, especially when they have shut down their support side so no one can actually be contacted at Twitter to provide advice on the situation or regarding how to proceed or any alternatives they could provide. 1

At $100 a month, I'd be inclined to just drop the Twitter feed from our website design. Our socials really aren't that important. 2

I'm thinking of taking the Twitter integration down for the moment as we do have a twitter link in the top corner of the page anyway. I'm definately not paying £225. They are money grabbers. Just the other day they wanted another £225 for something I ended up figuring out and sorting myself in about 5 minutes.

TechMonkey Posted June 7, 2023 Posted June 7, 2023 Sounds like £225 is their engineer cost for a block of time. Had similar with another web development company. Anything above a certain level was the same price, even if you know it would take 5 minutes or 3 hours. If that is their price then they should have made that clear when engaging them and whoever signed on the dotted line needs to read more carefully. As others have said, if the feature isn't useful or costs too much, turn it off. 2

I agree with the above. Is the website under contract? If so what does it say in relation to this? If it’s not under any support contract you can’t expect them to fix it for free. 2
