Tiny Primary uses Smoothwall provided by the LA with the broadband. Reporting is very slow compared to having our own appliance and the local customisation available is very restricted, though the LA have always been very responsive when I have needed changes outside of my access. I have always felt that buying into anything that comes bundled "and preconfigured" by the broadband supplier means that I can justify backing off some/most of the risks onto them.

Don't be afraid to try negociate on price. Suppliers (not LA's), are often more flexible at the end of one of their reporting periods so that the sales team can make their numbers and get their bonuses. If you really want a Smoothwall, I think there are 3rd party suppliers that might offer a better deal?

If you are looking after a primary - IMO Smoothwall is way overpriced and totally overkill for a primary school. It offers so many services you just wont use.

RM does offer a great filtering system - and from what I know - you don't even have to have RM as ur broadband provider.

That said - its worth a look while your shopping for a solution.
