Another Ass Man Reports template problem :(

Ok these little things are really starting to annoy me in these word templates!

 

I want to change a merge field so if it is a "Y" it is replaced with something else.

 

 { IF {MERGEFIELD Result:Commendation:Art - R } = "Y" "Tick" "Cross"}

 

This should replace "Y" with "Tick" and anything else with "cross"

 

I am actually using symbols but due to fonts etc I have replaced them with words for this example.

 

Now this works on my test mail merge but I cannot get it to work for a sims report template. It's such a simple thing but it just doesnt want to work. Am I to assume it's just the way SIMs is using the template and it wont work?
