Windows 11 and Office 365

I see that windows 10 EDU support will end in 2025 and Windows 12 is scheduled for next year, so look like I may start the migration to windows 11 this year and the next version of office., so windows 11 and Office 365.

 

I've been reading about shared computer activation for Microsoft 365 Apps.

 

Am i right in that if for whatever reason the machine cannot access the internet, then users won't be able to use office at all?

 

Currently with 2019 users can still use it due to KMS but see moving forward things are going to be cloud activated for each user when they login.

Yes and no. It downloads a token the first time the user logs in to the machine and activates office. This token then renewed every so often (I think it's 30 days). So yes, they do, but not all the time.

students won't always log into the same machine so looks like I'll need to look into redundant connections seeing relying more and more on Internet and cloud

If you have OVS or EES subscription then (at the minute) you can use device based activation which licenses the machine rather than the user.

Out of interest how did you go about getting hold of device based activation for 365? One school I support would like this, they currently have some user based activations for 365 and an OVS Subscirption, with Office Pro Plus but would prefer to use 365 without the user activation limit
