New hall sound system...

Hi all,

 

Looking at a new hall sound system and wondered if anyone who is more qualified than I would be able to say whether the following would be a good pairing. I know very little about PA systems (but have researched a lot over the last couple of days!):

Also, could some help work out how our wiring is likely setup, just so I can get my head around it (no schematics unfortunately). This isn't essential as I am ultimately replacing like for like but I like to understand how things work and this has me stumped!:

 

• We have a connection from the amp via a single SpeakOn connector at the front and rear of the hall.
  
• We have two speakers on the left hand side, two on the right. These are daisy-chained together, with the front speaker on the left having an in-and-out connection, and the rear speaker on the right having and in and out (I have tried to illustrate all of this below)
  

 

 

What I can't get my head around is - how are the two speakons (front and rear) likely wired to the speakers? If it helps the Amp is running in stereo mode and (from memory) stereo sound does function correctly (turn down the left channel on the mixer and the left speakers go off). I just cannot work out how this could possibly be wired - its like voodoo to me. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I am no expert but if you want sound advise (sorry!) then you need to give the dimensions of the room I would think

 

and the composition if there is anything like large metal roof bits like you get in a sports hall sometimes.

Ignoring speaker and amp choice for a min. From a wiring point of view is there one or two spekon points at the front and back?

 

If there's 2 then it's a fair bet that a standard 2 core speaker cable is run from the back connection to the rear left speaker, then looped to the front left speaker, then off to the front connection. Repeat for the right hand side.

 

If it's a single connector and you have stereo, then it's a NL4 4 wire connector at the faceplate so will need matching to the amp.

 

What does the current amp etc look like?

 

Assuming the wiring puts the 2 speakers per side in parallel your amp needs to be able to drive half the impedence of each speaker so for 8ohm speakers needs to be able to drive 4 ohms (fairly standard) 4ohm speakers needs to drive 2ohms (needs a bigger amp).

 

Def worth checking the wiring out before ordering the kit. You may need some speaker cables making etc.
