cheekycharly Posted April 20, 2023 Posted April 20, 2023 Any one know what Windows 10 or Windows 11 Edu licensing roughly costs. All our laptops were bought with PRO licensing but I noticed when doing Intune policies that you cannot change the logon picture and desktop background without being on Edu version of Windows. I guess there are other features I haven't discovered yet. Cheers gang!
LeMarchand Posted April 20, 2023 Posted April 20, 2023 MS Licensing/costs are pretty labyrinthine. You might be better off asking one of the forum sponsors who are also resellers, like @VeryPC. That said, if you're using InTune, do you not already have a licensing agreement in place? 1

You should be able to set the logon background and desktop background for Pro devices using the following CSP's: ./Vendor/MSFT/Personalization/LockScreenImageUrl ./Vendor/MSFT/Personalization/DesktopImageUrl Set as 'String' and then paste in the direct link to the image in the value box. From memory the picture must have a JPEG extension and I don't think it worked if it was JPG or anything else...
mavhc Posted April 20, 2023 Posted April 20, 2023 I found that if I switch from Windows 10 Pro to Windows 10 Pro Education, the GPO I set up to set background worked. The switch worked by accepting something on the Education Store and then waiting for someone to login who's licenced in M365, didn't have to pay for any Windows licences.
cheekycharly Posted April 20, 2023 Author Posted April 20, 2023 Ahh right so I can likely download the Windows 10 pro edu spin that up and get the background features. Will give it a try in the morning as that sounds promising.

Had a look this morning and couldnt find an ISO for Windows 10 Pro Educational. The windows 10 Pro licenses we have on the laptops will be Retail OEM as they came embedded by the manufacture (HP) not sure if the Educational Pro is a volume license version or not. Checked our old Volume licensing portal but couldn't see that software available. How did you get hold of the installer as I am keen to try it after trying plain Educational and having no such luck. Many Thanks
mavhc Posted April 26, 2023 Posted April 26, 2023 Education Pro is just Pro with someone logged in with a paid o365 account, and then it turns off the ads and lets you set the background

Maybe it just needs a 365 A3/A5 License assigning and then it will change for the users?
