Planehazza Posted April 17, 2023 Posted April 17, 2023 We're having trouble getting teachers and students to use their Google accounts on the Chromebooks, with them saying it's too hard for the Y3-Y6s to remember their username and passwords. I want a simpler solution for them and have discovered Clever, where a selection of images or a QR code that is generated uniquely for each student can be used. Just wondering if anyone has used this service? It appears to be GDPR compliant and is free for schools: https://clever.com/products/badges Thanks!
Cazab Posted April 17, 2023 Posted April 17, 2023 Wonde also do similar integration which also provisions accounts for you and integrates with many MIS's. For Google they generate QR codes to scan at the Chromebook's camera or 'Emoji' passwords, using Emojis. Although from my experience Years 3-6 have been fine for usernames and passwords, I feel your pain. 1
6Foot2 Posted April 17, 2023 Posted April 17, 2023 Have to say, this looks like something I would have jumped at for our Chromebook users, if it delivers on all that it promises.
thimon Posted April 17, 2023 Posted April 17, 2023 (edited) I’ve looked into Clever, it’s not available for UK customers because of GDPR, which is a shame. There were UK schools which used it, then one day it stopped working for them, as Clever had essentially pulled the plug. Classlink can do QR code logins, but isn’t free. Edit: I’ve just seen https://support.clever.com/s/articles/202043013?language=en_US which counteracts what I’ve been told and have read. Maybe all is well??? Edited April 17, 2023 by thimon 1

THey have a page on their site that says it's not yet available to EU/UK due to GDPR, but I think it's an outdate article. Certainly the research I did today suggested it was now indeed GDPR compliant... This suggests not... https://support.clever.com/s/articles/236009108?language=en_US However this suggests it is? https://support.clever.com/s/articles/202043013?language=en_US#gdpr I would like to see what Wonde can do as suggested above, as we already have Wonde integration in several of our schools
thimon Posted April 17, 2023 Posted April 17, 2023 I’ve also seen the platform go down a few times recently, meaning users couldn’t log in. It went down today.
Planehazza Posted April 18, 2023 Author Posted April 18, 2023 Thanks all, I'll keep all this in mind. I'm tempted to give this a trial, but does it seem that Clever has outages regularly?
TronXP Posted April 18, 2023 Posted April 18, 2023 Cool do a picture /QR login for Chromebooks. https://www.cloudwise.cool/ 1
CTIDTech Posted April 25, 2023 Posted April 25, 2023 ClassLink also offer QR logins for students - well worth a look and support first class.
NikkiOakins Posted April 26, 2023 Posted April 26, 2023 Hi all I can confirm that Cloudwise has an amazing picture and QR log in that satisfies all GDPR and is active in the UK. Message me if you need details or look at their website http://cloudwise.co.uk 1
Alis_Klar Posted September 22, 2023 Posted September 22, 2023 Sorry to re-open this thread. Mini Rant : Why so so few companies offer QR code sign ins bundled with SSO? Are school unwilling to pay for it? Is it too niche as only kids below Y3 would benefit from it? Does RM Unify offer this functionality too? Great shout for cloudwise hadn't heard of this before but will come down to how many apps they support for SSO or is it a case of binding to MS 365 and then any site that supports Microsoft SSO will work with this? We have the oddball ScholarPack as MIS so that could be an issue.
Planehazza Posted August 25 Author Posted August 25 Another bump to this but cloudwise are no more I believe, or were bought out or something. I'm in the process of implement Clever at our trust, employing the SSO feature for QR badge logins for KS1 and KS2, which is all free now. It's the MFA you now pay for and it's actually not too pricey.

I thought I did, but we're rolling out shared iPad mode across the whole trust, including KS1. Wish me luck. Drinking at work in schools is generally frowned upon, right? Just checking... 😂
mjhardisty Posted Wednesday at 08:57 Posted Wednesday at 08:57 I've implemented Clever at several primay schools. SSO into Google Accounts works exceptionally well.
synaesthesia Posted Wednesday at 09:02 Posted Wednesday at 09:02 That's the one thing Clever should absolutely be used for, it's awesome for primary logins and could easily be implemented for older SEND or medical need students too. Just don't like seeing it used in the same sentence as MFA, because whatever the marketing says, it isn't.

Favourite dog and fruit encapsulating/acting as their username/pw is not MFA...
