akidosaint Posted March 23, 2023 Posted March 23, 2023 (edited) ((SMTP server is office365) One of schools i support has an issue with Bromcom and office 365. Their office@ email address has been set to be the Bromcom email address so any bulk emails appear from there. They've been having issue when sending out whole school emails from Bromcom it will advise that a number of emails have failed. Once they've received the alert they then send another email from outlook to the failed recipients. Reviewing exchange message trace i can not see any email from Bromcom stating failed to recipeint but i can see the later email from outlook client. eg Bromcom failed to deliver to [email protected] message trace nothing for [email protected] at time of intial email via bromcom no failure message. message trace show successful delivery from outlook client. It appears to be a timeout between Bromcom and office365 I've increased the max number of recipients that office@ can send to but still fail via Bromcom Has anyone come across this before. Steve21 Posted March 23, 2023 Posted March 23, 2023 Are you sure you aren't hitting the send-limits on the account? There's emails per minute/hour/day if you're using standard 365 accounts etc https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/office365/servicedescriptions/exchange-online-service-description/exchange-online-limits#sending-limits-1 Normally you'd use an SMTP style service for this that doesn't limit it (unless bromcom do it a different way) Steve

HPlum78 Posted March 23, 2023 Posted March 23, 2023 4 When outbound message volumes surpass the message rate limit, any excess in message submission will be throttled and successively carried over to the following minutes. This will typically not block the sender's account, but Exchange Online isn't suited to accommodate bulk-mailing scenarios. For this use case, options 2 and 3 here are recommended instead. That is note 4 on the rules of engagement for mail submission. I don't know Bromcom at all, what are the options for mail delivery? If its cloudy then there is little point standing up an on premise SMTP solution, but there must be a way to submit mail in to O365 in some other manner?
HPlum78 Posted March 23, 2023 Posted March 23, 2023 So it seems from your post that the mails never left Bromcom as they never appear in the message trace? (Are we suggesting that the mail has been sent but MS is dropping those mails?(that is a whole other issue and you would need bullet proof evidence of that...))
HPlum78 Posted March 23, 2023 Posted March 23, 2023 Need to see the trace logs from the Bromcom side to see what it thinks has happened.
Marci Posted March 23, 2023 Posted March 23, 2023 (edited) I don't know Bromcom at all, what are the options for mail delivery? You head to config > setup > system settings and just add it as an SMTP server... Bromcom then despatches one email at a time thru to it. S'all standard / nothing complex / out of the ordinary. You can either use Bromcom's SMTP servers (which has a limit to how many emails you can send) or you can use your own / a 3rd party (with whatever limitations come with that). We experience no such issues bulk emailing from within Bromcom using o365 SMTP. (Whether the school in question is using o365 SMTP or Bromcom built-in SMTP is a different story... the address you specify that it's sent as is just the default reply field used regardless of the SMTP server used) Edited March 23, 2023 by Marci 2
