[sims] sims not recording working days lost when absence created in cover

When I add an absence in the cover arrangements screen, it does not record any working days lost in the personnel file but the Cover Manual says that it will be calculated automatically. Also, the "edit absence" pop up window in cover arrangements does not appear as the one in the Manual illustration, it is a much simplified version with no way to add working days lost etc. Is this facility not part of the core sims package?
