Smoothwall proxy crashing

Over the last few days we've had the smoothwall proxy stop responding a couple of times which has brought the internet down for the whole school.

 

I've never had this before, but a reboot of the box has fixed it each time.

 

Any ideas how to troubleshoot it @ibpalle or anyone else?

The proxy service, or the whole box, not responding? Can you get to the web interface? What hardware is it on?

Just the proxy service, box and web interface are fine. We're on S8 I think

What release of Smoothwall are you running?

 

We had massive issues from Leeds 58 to Leeds 63 back in September 2022 - there are posts on here about it.

 

In the end it was down to one of our lines and possibly a Leeds release. We are now on Maiden having flatterned the box and restored our config and havent had an issue ever since.

 

Our issue went up to 3rd line where they created a script for us to run which restarted a few key services whilst we tried to find the issue. The script ran in a matter of seconds which meant we didnt have to wait 15 mins for the box to start it's self.

Log messages from reports - logs - system after selecting the web proxy from the section drop down may give a clue but definitely give support a call.

Our S8 went in the bin when this started happening. Support wanted logs off the unit before the reboot, when it had frozen - makes sense right?! Next thing they thought the HDD was failing, so ripped out the inline system and went cloud so WAN access is always on, even if the internet isnt.
