Your support channel is the best option here so they can ensure you’re doing the right thing and properly supported.

Passwords should not be shared on EduGeek forums nor private message either on or off the site for security reasons.

I’m surprised that is any use, surely there is a newer viable version.

I was suprised too, but no that is still the most recent full installable ISO.....

That PDF is 6.5 years old and the 2013 ISO would be approaching it's 10th birthday - it's almost comical.

Yup its like SIMS Support for the latest SQL and having to lob the DB in compatibility mode.

Weird! I migrated servers a few years ago (2018?) & I was able to get the latest iso/release from my support provider...

Wasn't that the 2013 ISO then...?

Can someone tell me what the 'SIMS 2013 Summer 2 ISO' is used for (actual genuine question as I'm thinking of a SIMS server migration soon and wonder if I'll need it)....?

Also (depending on the answer to the above), what would be the reason ESS (Capita) would have ever felt the need to provide anyone with an updated version, bearing in mind the answer from @willtech ?

You just need to do the 2013 Summer ISO then just run the latest setup.

A bit like using an old Windows ISO and running the latest CU...?

Furthermore (also depending an the previous answers) if the OP is running SIMS without support, why? But if they have support they would be the most suitable place to get... support. Or is what the OP needs the ISO for out of the scope of the support level they are paying for? Or are they being too slow with their response to your request?

This has also been asked numerous times (usually from forum members with low rep)...

The Summer 2013 ISO is the last official installation media that Capita/ESS provided for installing SIMS onto a clean server.

As you've mentioned your wanting to do a migration to a new server, you don't really need a lot of it since you already have a working database, and the support companies have the migration tool to move it to another server. Most of SIMS Server can be setup with a Copy/Paste these days since .Net Framework is standard, but you will need to reinstall thinks like Solus 3 (different installer anyway), SIMS System Manager for the Online modules etc.

For some reason I thought the update process was more complex than just running the latest update CD. I’m sure they didn’t include every cumulative update since the last FULL release. I thought you’d have to step through multiple updates.

Either way, I remember being keen to have a clean setups folder as there used to be so many screw ups and the requirement to rollback or re-run updates. Selectively fix or replace individual files in the setups folder. Of course this was way before SOLUS 3 which probably negates a lot of this now.

Yes, the thinking behind an installable release is the same as having an OS ISO that’s already on Service Pack 2, it just ensures that you don’t need to run a bunch of updates to include essential fixes and changes. They used to periodically release new ones and they could be requested from support.

I’m really surprised 2013 is still live!

We used to get a lot of threads with people asking for passwords or methods to access a backup file. Hence my previous post and the reason we should be very careful with how helpful we are here. Support is the best way to get support. There shouldn’t be a reason to be installing SIMS from scratch and not being in a supported situation.

Just so you're aware, you actually need another step because that 2013 ISO isn't suitable even with the latest update. You need to get the latest SIMSInfrastructuresetup.exe and a couple of other files. If you search for that file on the KB there will be a link to a new version that needs to be downloaded and added to the setups directory too.
