Slow Site, how can i speed it up?

Hi

 

I have uploaded my website onto the main webserver but its running slow. The server is a good spec and the internet connection is pretty decent. How can i speed it up please?

Apart from the obvious of defraging the drive

 

The server is a brand new install, only did it yesterday.

 

From here you can enable the GZIP Page Compression, this made a difference on the site I maintain. On the system tab you can also enable the cache, since as default I think its disabled.

 

I will try that tomorrow but now I’m off to bed, thanks.

It's a very bizzare type of slow loading because it takes ages thinking then all of a sudden loads. Have you checked you haven't got a DNS/firewall issue or something of that nature?

 

These tips: Performance - MoodleDocs are in relation to moodle but a lot of them can be applied to a generic lamp or wamp stack.

HTML documents seem to load quickly, so im not sure it is something of that nature.

Its a Windows Server 2003 R2 server using Apache2Triad

Another school up the road (also a member of this forum) has used apache2triad for a while without slowness.

 

What package for windows do you recommend?

try the wamp package.

 

Also on another note, site looks very good, nice touch on picture of all the staff.

I think the best of the packages as sysman says is xampp but I would strongly recommend for a production site that you install mysql, apache and php from scratch yourself.

I have found php to be much faster on linux/unix even when using it with up to date versions of apache2. Even in a linux VM it can be quicker at some php functions I believe.

To be honest, its loading ok for me. But at this time I suspect its running at its best.

Just going to Bump this a little

 

Could it be something to do with the site it self? Or more of the technical setup? Eg the connection to the server?
