Koldov Posted January 9, 2023 Posted January 9, 2023 We have an older Kyocera MFD (TASKalfa 5052ci) which has for some reason started missing strips/bands/lines when photocopying (2 thin strips near the top of the document). It isn't in the actual toner to paper subsystem as it prints the same document fine, so I'm hoping all the internals are OK (toner/drum/fuser). I don't normally deal with the printers so I'm not sure where else to look... and trying to research on the internet is a waste of time as 99.9% of the posts are about printers even when specifying 'photocopy'. Yes, I've cleaned the glass!
andy_b Posted January 9, 2023 Posted January 9, 2023 If its going through the ADF have you cleaned the ADF glass?
Koldov Posted January 9, 2023 Author Posted January 9, 2023 Yes I have sorry forgot to mention, it appears on the photocopy when taken from the glass or the feeder in the same place which is strange. So I'm guessing it's not a problem with the actual glass or scanner under the glass...?
MatthewL Posted January 9, 2023 Posted January 9, 2023 Does it do it when you print direct to it? If its copying what happens if you scan does it do the same?
TechMonkey Posted January 9, 2023 Posted January 9, 2023 I'm assuming horizontal, not all the way down a page? No difference between B&W and Colour? If you do a solid block down the page and print is that OK? If you then copy that page how does it come out? I can't think of anything that would affect copy only that wouldn't streak down the page, or banding that wasn't a drum or fusing issue.
Koldov Posted January 9, 2023 Author Posted January 9, 2023 Thanks for the suggestions. Printing is fine, there are no missing lines. Colour and B&W are both affected (originally issue was brought to my attention by a teacher that had printed a colour page which was OK and then scanned it to produce copies). I've narrowed it down to the 'scanning' system as it appears even when choosing the preview and viewing it on the LCD screen (same both on the glass and the feeder).
MatthewL Posted January 9, 2023 Posted January 9, 2023 It will be an ADF scan issue, if there is no physical dirt on the glass, put the paper on the glass the way you scanned it and see if you can see anything, it would need a service engineer to replace parts (presumably these are under contract) it does happen from time to time but it rules out the main engine with it only happening on the top.
