Recommendation for CCTV system and installers (West London) ???

Hello all,

 

 

We have two systems HikVision and Unifi Video which are currently outdated and need to be replaced (as well as increase the number of cameras).

Although outdated, the Unifi solution is somewhat our preference as we also have a Unifi WiFi system. Are any of you using Unifi for CCTV?

We need a robust solution yet easy to use when extracting footage.

Also, do you have an installer/maintainer to recommend?

From experience I would steer very clear from Unifi for Video/NVR - they moved all the newer firmware cameras to be bespoke to their NVR and it was terrible - to the point where it melted and we got sent two replacement units (Which we still have in a cupboard if you're interested)

 

I would say it's an ok solution for a small site, even a primary but anything more than 25-30 cameras and it just isn't good enough.

 

If you're happy to install and configure yourselves, Synology Surveillance Station is my recommendation, speak to them and they will quote you a bespoke package that honestly, just works and is compatible with all sorts of cameras - except the Unifi ones if updated beyond a certain firmware version!

Tend to agree with @Warwick_Tech about the Unifi cameras, I used to work at a site with around 100 cameras on the video platform, while it was easy to use always felt very much like it was a beta product that never really got finalised. Then protect came along but had capacity limitations initially, leading to all the cameras being replaced with HIK. I have used protect since and think it's quite a good solution for a couple of cameras.

 

I've tried Synology's surveillance station out and was quite happy with it, it's just needs licensing.

 

Most of our customers use Hikvision now, I have to say it generally just works, it's affordable and the image quality is great.

 

We've also installed the Hanwha system for someone who couldn't have Hikvision, but it was significantly more expensive and the image quality wasn't really as good.

 

If there's a security concern regarding HIK I've suggested using their cameras with Synology and isolating the network that the cameras sit on before.
