ssiruuk2 Posted July 2, 2008 Posted July 2, 2008 Hi everyone, I have been asked to investigate implementing a system that will allow our students to setup and maintain their own blogs on an internal web server (this is for September). We already have an IIS server setup running an intranet. Just wondered if anyone had anything already in place or knew of anything out there that you could recommend We would obviously need multiple blogs running and have some kind of user management, ldap / AD support would be really useful too. Thanks
somabc Posted July 2, 2008 Posted July 2, 2008 Most blog software runs on LAMP. You could use Sharepoint? It has AD integration.
srochford Posted July 2, 2008 Posted July 2, 2008 Wordpress or DotNetNuke spring to mind. This is one of those things which is really hard to search for - almost anything which searches for "blog" will find you blogs rather than how to make blogs!
apearce Posted July 2, 2008 Posted July 2, 2008 If your going to use sharepoint you should add the Enhanced blogging for SharePoint available at Community Kit for SharePoint - Home Another blogging program you can use on IIS is Community Server Community Server
Domino Posted July 2, 2008 Posted July 2, 2008 I'd say sharepoint would be the way to go. replaced our intranet with it, too useful for its own good.... takes some getting set up as you want it, but infinitly expandable
mcloum Posted July 2, 2008 Posted July 2, 2008 depends what language you want the app to be written in. You say your using IIS so im assuming your ASP rather than PHP for your intranet? If you are using ASP then take a look down this list ASP Blog Scripts and Components :: Hot Scripts If your using PHP then something like wordpress would be a good option. There is an AD plugin which allows you to create accounts for users based on AD WordPress › Active Directory Authentication WordPress Plugins I've not actually tried this, google is your friend......sometimes!
ssiruuk2 Posted July 2, 2008 Author Posted July 2, 2008 Thanks very much for all the suggestions and links, much appreciated Yes searching for this topic in google does send you round in circles as i found out earlier. I hadnt considered sharepoint at all before now. Thanks again all. Posted via Mobile Device
SteveBentley Posted July 3, 2008 Posted July 3, 2008 If you have a VLE you may be able to handle blogs through that. We use Journal LX within Blackboard.
ssiruuk2 Posted July 3, 2008 Author Posted July 3, 2008 thanks for the suggestion of the VLE, ours does support it but the teacher involved wants to stay away from it (don't think they like the whole thing too much!!!)
somabc Posted July 3, 2008 Posted July 3, 2008 In Scotland they are rolling out a Nationwide Intranet, based on sharepoint and IIS. Students could have their own blog on this, but it will be upto the LA / School how they use it. Glow | Information on the national schools intranet for Scotland
