I presume no-one on here will answer this - or at least no truthfully!

 

but I found this on Huffington Post today

Amazing that people are still using these sort of passwords in this day and age

 

or maybe not knowing 'some people'

 

a few things occur to me

 

a) how did they find out - did they just ask people??

b) a big company near where I used to work in the 1980s brought in a firm of security consultants - the IT department refused to co-operate

Instead of moaning to senior managers the firm issued a challenge

If we can log in as 50% of you by tomorrow morning then you co-operate - if not we will go home

 

by the next morning they had logged in as 80% of the IT staff just by looking around people's desks for family names

and trying Liverpool and - for some reason - Everton

 

c) Liverpool appears 4th on the list - Man U appears - er - nowhere - similar to Everton and that other club from the wrong end of the East Lancs road

 

d) I presume that these were personal passwords - I sort of hope no businesses (etc) allow things like this!!

NordPass are a password management service from NordVPN. I believe like many password managers they offer a service to check your passwords for strength (although I'd suggest most users of a password manager are already above the use of 12345678), but they also 'monitor the dark web' for breaches. This is the most likely source of the information I'd imagine.
