I use the SIMS admissions no. as the users logon.

In previous years I have had to wait until the first day of the new term in september, wait for the SIMS person to formally admit the pupils to give them their admissions no. from which I can then bulk import in to network and email package.

This year the teachers want to give the new year 7's an IT induction the moment they walk in to school so they want the users set up before they even arrive.

LEA advise they are nt admitted until the first day or it throws attendance data out of the window...

We had a lot of fun with this. One year we ended up re-creating the entire cohort because there were so many mistakes in users names/dob etc.

Now our accounts are not created properly until their UPN is in active directory - otherwise moodle won't get their courses from sims and the whole system goes haywire.

No UPN, No Account is the rule.

If students require login before they start thy can use a 'guest' account.

For a number of reasons we are changing our logons to initials and last 6 digits of the UPN. If you went for a similar system you could create them now as they should already have their UPN.
