Got RealVNC rolled out to a multitude of workstations. For all of them, it works fine when a user has logged on. For some, if a user hasn't logged on, I can vnc in and get the logon screen. On others, if a user hasn't logged on, after entering the password, the connection just gets dropped. I can't seem to figure out what the differences are between the machines that get me to the logon prompt, and the ones that drop me.

Anyone experienced this before?

Ive not used REALvnc, but with Ultravnc you have to register the VNC server as a System Service for you to access the machine without it being logged in.

So I'd check and see if the machines you can get to without them being logged in have it registered as a service, and if the others are just set to run on Startup (i.e. login).

Intersting idea. I used the fastpush batch files to deploy it, and one of the things it does is adds it as a system service. But it might have failed to do so on some of the computers, Ill check.

Thanks

We have Real VNC on all of our computers. We run 3.33 with a patch to get rid of the icon in the system tray. We never get this problem

Also, it prompts for the password, and then the connection drops once the right password has been entered. Cant remember if i said that before. So its definately running on the machines.

PS. How do you remove the desktop icon?

This may be a screen resolution issue, can you try again after the connect drops to see if this happens again? We had this with stations that have high resolution set but the latest ultravnc automatically resizes this so its no longer a problem. Just a suggestion.
