Outlook and 365 Mailboxes Bandwidth

I think i've worked out that since migrating from local exchange to 365, our internet bandwidth is being maxed out.

All users use the full version of Outlook, in on-line mode so that everything is live and up to date.

I don't want to use cached email due to profile sizes and if exclude from profile don't want it to cache the mailbox each time the users logs on.

What other viable solutions are there to reduce the bandwidth being used as seem to get constant spikes and maxing out all the time during the day causing slow internet.

Used cached mode. Even on machines in Azure (so pretty damn close to exchange) online only performance isnt reliably good. Let’s assume you throw more bandwidth at it, it will still be poor.

 

Use Fslogix to cache the OST on on a local file server, don’t bother backing them up. Maybe set caching age to 60 days etc.

How many users do you have?

 

We use cached mode for staff, never had a problem with this and students just use webmail.

No just staff - approx 120 users. All students use webmail.

If you want to deprioritise certain traffic then we'd need to know what firewall/router you have

we have used cached desktop outlook for a number of years, outlook cache is redirected so they arent recreated each logon. We have a pitiful WAN connection compared to most people and we cope fine with 365 mail, sharepoint, teams and onedrive.

 

We use microsoft connected cache too which also helps (yes peering exists but caching means almost no peer web traffic), good for all your other online data hogs (WUFB, intune packages etc).
