bheart Posted September 23, 2022 Posted September 23, 2022 I'm looking for a little bit of advice regarding compatible cards for our door access control systems. We are a charity and recently moved to new building where Paxton Net2 plus controllers and HID (SmartID 803xD) door card readers are installed. We have bought various cards like Paxton Mifare Classic 1k (692-148) and NXP MIFARE Classic EV1 4K, but none of these work. I mean when I show these cards to HID card reader, there is no response. The previous owner provided 4 cards, and those work fine. We have re-programmed those using Net2 Lite software. I would really appreciate if someone could help me to resolve this issue.
grahamd22 Posted September 23, 2022 Posted September 23, 2022 You need to give the cards a 'token' via a reader connected to a computer and the Net 2 Access Control. We bought a cheap pack of Mifare cards from Amazon with no problems. We use them with our MFP's as well. 1
bheart Posted September 23, 2022 Author Posted September 23, 2022 Hi thank you for your reply. I have not tried this with new cards yet but did the following steps with the previous cards I bought (NXP MIFARE Classic EV1 4K) + Connected Paxton Net2 desktop reader to the server connected to the Paxton Net2 Controllers + Follow the steps as in this video But even after that HID door reader does not even read the new card. But it works for old cards provided by the previous owner.
grahamd22 Posted September 23, 2022 Posted September 23, 2022 It could be the reader that is at fault rather than the cards as we had to use another USB port to get ours working? Does it give any indication that it talks to your server correctly and have you spoken to Paxton as they are usually very helpful? Can you contact the previous owner?
3s-gtech Posted September 23, 2022 Posted September 23, 2022 Can you output the card data in plaintext into Notepad? When we do that with 1k cards the data is very distinct and can help to determine what you have. 1
robk Posted September 23, 2022 Posted September 23, 2022 The Standard net 2 readers don't read mifare I understand, there is a universal net 2 door reader that does. The HID cards are thicker from memory. 1

I have used two different desktop card readers but still have the same issue. When old cards are shown to the HID door reader, the door reader beeps, and I see it in events (net2 lite) as well. But for new cards, the door reader does not beep and nothing in events. It is like the door reader does not even know that I have shown the card. I have spoken to Paxton but they were not very helpful; they told me to contact the local Paxton installation company. One company visited and they said to replace all HID readers with Paxton. It would cost us several thousand. Another company told me to buy Paxton Mifare Classic 1k (692-148), which I purchased. I have also asked the previous owner, but they do not respond.

3s-gtech Posted September 23, 2022 Posted September 23, 2022 Yeah that doesn’t look like any Mifare 1k I’ve seen!
