All we're talking about is dns though, and that's free, also proxying dns is free, and some cdn stuff, can't lose

Ok, anyone have recommendations for alternative web hosting? Need to work towards re-hosting our website ASAP. DNS done, and Registrar change in progress.

 

TSO support response has been as clear as dish water, giving me the impression they are a one person setup...

If possible, could you elaborate on why you recommend / use Krystal Hosting?

 

For example, for school / education website, good support, availability, UK based etc.

 

We just want to make sure we migrate to a web host that offers good support etc, and are available when there are issues!

^ these are really worth doing. I set mine up as a free VPN.

For hosting public web/dns you'd need more than one, in different regions and it starts becoming a bit less free. Great for personal use though.

reliability, You can't have HA unless you have more than one. Plus you want to be able to do updates without downtime or waiting until night!

Don't really care about reliability for website though, 99.9% is good enough. DNS yes, but just use cloudflare.

I see it more as a good practice thing, all important services should be behind a load balancer and easy to take down, update, scale etc. But if you don't care then :shrug:

Oh I gave up schools as I couldn't afford it. Pay is too bad.

Last I worked at was a Uni and had probably 10 webservers in a single zone.

I'm now in industry/e-commerce with a variable number of web servers across US and EU. production is currently running 30 nodes.

 

Even when I was working in schools I ran with a load balancers (netscaler, haproxy, istio(envoy))

Indeed, don't over complicate things that can be simple. Although precaching your entire website and rendering html instead of php etc would reduce cpu time. Your website is probably static really.

So just a quick update and I'm after a little more advice please.

 

I've moved DNS to Cloudflare, and the website it hosted with Primarysite and it's all working well.

 

I've been in contact with Cloudflare and they do not accept .sch.uk domains but I seem to be going round the houses with Nominet. They will accept .sch.uk domains but I can't get a straight answer from them about how to set the name servers to point our domain to Cloudflare DNS. I thought it was as simple setting once registered but I'm starting question myself.

So, you can have your domain held on our NOMINET Tag, but as we are not a registrar and do not provider hosting services you will need to out source the hosting as needed.

 

To move the domain onto our NOMINET Tag you will instead need to send us a secure message when logged in the account by going to 'contact us'. The message needs to state the domain name and your request for us to move this domain over to our NOMINET Tag and we will process this for you.

 

 

I understand Nominet do not provide hosting and I already explained to them we were using Primarysite for this anyway so is it as simple as making the request and asking them to set the name servers on our domain to point to Cloudflare?
