Despite the logo up there, we will still be shipping PCs with Windows XP Home and Pro until January 2009. Because we are system builders, we use OEM versions which are still available, its just the boxed product that is no longer available.

 

Microsoft will continue mainstream support for Windows XP until April 2009 and extended support will continue until 2014.

Have trialled Vista, and in process of building new 2008 DC.. but Vista is stil on the backburner

Its just the fully boxed retail package that is no longer available. We'll still be shipping PCs with XP Home or Pro OEM licences throughout 2008.

Licensing suppliers I've spoken to say that they sell Vista Business licenses, but that includes downgrades for XP Pro. If this stays true, then there's nothing to worry about.

 

It's the same with Office. You buy Office 2007, but that covers earlier versions 2003 or 2000.

There is still a problem, possibly depending on the supplier. We purchased some laptops at the start of the year from an educational hardware supplier, with XP installed, but the recovery disk and product key attached to the machine are Vista. So if you get a fault that involves reinstalling the op sys, you may have a problem, although in my current case I had other XP disks and the supplier has been able to give me the XP volume licence key. I would recommend you keep all your old CDs!!!
