Jobos Posted August 17, 2022 Posted August 17, 2022 I've been asked to give the kitchen manager internet access so they can use a non domain laptop but as the wifi is poor in that room we have had a network point fitted. Now I'm trying to configure the switch so the network point can only connect to the guest network. The guest network works fine under wifi but using a PC I'm not getting an address. We have 2 VLANs, default VLAN 1 and guest VLAN 30. The switches as a follows with the kitchen connected to port 3. HP 1910 Unifi AP port 1, untagged VLAN 1, tagged VLAN 30 Kitchen port 3, untagged VLAN 30 port 48 is connected back to core, untagged VLAN 1, tagged VLAN 30 The Sophos XG handles DHCP for the guest network and under wifi the address should be 192.168.1.x but when connecting my laptop to port 3 the address is 169.254.70.20. I've tried tagging and un-tagging port 3 but it makes no difference as the address I get is always 169.254.70.20. Any advice please?
5tu Posted August 17, 2022 Posted August 17, 2022 You may find you also need to set the PVID to 30 on port 3. https://support.hpe.com/hpesc/public/docDisplay?docId=mmr_kc-0119782 1
Davit2005 Posted August 17, 2022 Posted August 17, 2022 (edited) A diagram would be great but hide any identifiable info obviously. See if you can trace the MAC address of the device through the network, this has helped us a number of times to make sure all the relevant switch ports are tagged where necessary. Cache Posted August 17, 2022 Posted August 17, 2022 Spot on! I don't know what PVID is but thank you, that fixed it. Port VLAN ID - what VLAN it will send untagged traffic down is my understanding 1
Davit2005 Posted August 18, 2022 Posted August 18, 2022 The joys of the different terminology used between vendors :-) 1
